Telluride is a mining town
Telluride, Colorado, is a mountain town with a charming historical district and many shops. It was founded during the gold rush in the mid 1800s, and has since grown into a popular ski resort and summer destination. Its many activities include hiking, mountain biking, white river rafting, and skiing.
The town’s growth grew slowly, mainly due to the location. It was not until the arrival of the Rio Grande & Southern Railroad in 1890 that Telluride experienced its most notable boom. Within a decade, the population increased from 766 to 2,446. The railroad connected Telluride to the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad System. As a result, the town began to take on a more permanent appearance, with wood buildings gradually replaced by more substantial buildings. Many brick buildings were built during this time.
The town’s name, Telluride, comes from the non-metallic element tellurium, which is often associated with rich mineral deposits. The town was so popular during the gold rush in the late 1880s that it produced more millionaires per capita than New York City. By 1900, the Tomboy Mine, an area gold mine, became one of the world’s top producers. By 1900, Telluride was the third largest gold producer in the United States and fourth-largest in silver production.

There are excellent ski resorts and a variety of hiking opportunities. In the summer, the town is also home to several popular festivals. Unfortunately, there are not many options for nightlife.
